Our Mission

We envision a world where vulnerable women can thrive, reclaim their dignity, and build a better future. Forgotten Women is a UK-based charity, run by women for women, dedicated to helping those in crisis and emergencies. We strive to lift women out of poverty, uphold their rights, and champion equality for marginalized girls and women.

The charity was founded after witnessing the devastating “sex for aid” violations, where women in vulnerable situations were exploited and manipulated. As part of our commitment, we ensure safe aid delivery and provide the safety, emotional support, and reassurance these women deserve. As Sunny Bahia, CEO of Forgotten Women states: “Sex for aid and sexual exploitation should not and will not be tolerated.”

Our Story

Forgotten Women began in 2013 during the Syrian conflict, where women faced unimaginable atrocities, including abuse, rape, and transactional exploitation. In Aleppo, as bombs fell, women miscarried from fear and panic amidst the chaos of war. Initially, we planned to build a women-run hospital in Aleppo to provide safe healthcare, but sudden changes in the situation made this project unfeasible.

This turning point revealed that while Syrian women desperately needed help, women worldwide were also in urgent need of basic aid, support, and dignity without fear or compromise. Motivated by this moral duty, Forgotten Women was officially registered in October 2016. Our first successful safe aid delivery was for Syrian women affected by war, along the Turkey-Syria border. Since then, our mission has been to stand with women globally, ensuring their dignity and humanity are upheld.

Donation Policy

Forgotten Women ensures that all donations are used transparently and efficiently to support its projects. Funds are allocated directly to the designated programmes, and donors receive regular updates on the impact of their contributions. The organisation adheres to strict financial accountability and governance standards.
