Allah has obligated them to pay charity from their wealth (i.e. Zakat), to be taken from the rich among them and then distributed to their poor.
Zakat is the third of the five basic pillars of Islam, Zakat is primarily an act of worship. The Arabic word ‘Zakah’ literally means purification, growth, blessing and appreciation.
